A5 Six-Ring Compatibility Guide: What Fits Your Lumen Binder
مشاركة
Who this guide is for
If you own The Champagne Binder or The Noir Binder — or you're deciding between them — this guide gives you the exact, Lumen-verified measurements you need to shop for refill inserts with confidence. Both binders share identical A5 dimensions and six-ring specs, so everything below applies to both.
Cover dimensions
| Measurement | Value |
|---|---|
| Format | A5 |
| Cover size | 212 × 160 mm |
These are the outer cover dimensions. The usable page area inside the rings is slightly smaller — standard A5 paper (148 × 210 mm) fits correctly when punched for six rings.
Ring mechanism
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Number of rings | 6 |
| Ring diameter | 20 mm |
| Ring shape | Round |
| Ring finish (Champagne) | Gold |
| Ring finish (Noir) | Gold |
A 20 mm ring capacity is suitable for everyday use — roughly 150–200 sheets depending on paper weight. Going above that can strain the mechanism, so if you plan a very thick setup, consider splitting sections across pouches or dividers rather than overfilling.
Insert hole requirements
To fit these binders, your inserts need six holes punched for a standard A5 six-ring pitch. If you are buying pre-punched inserts, look for packaging that states "A5 six-ring" or "Filofax A5-compatible pitch" — that spacing is the widely adopted standard for this format.
Hole count: 6
Hole spacing: Standard A5 six-ring pitch (the most common spacing for A5 ring binders)
Note: Lumen has not independently tested compatibility with any specific external planner brand. If you are buying inserts from another brand, confirm they state A5 six-ring compatibility before purchasing.
Suitable refill formats
Any insert that meets the criteria below will fit:
- Paper size: A5 (148 × 210 mm) or slightly narrower to clear the rings
- Hole pattern: Six holes, standard A5 six-ring pitch
- Examples of compatible formats: weekly spreads, monthly calendars, daily pages, dot-grid pages, lined notes, blank pages, to-do sheets, project pages, and dividers — as long as they are punched for A5 six rings
Lumen sells inserts designed and tested specifically for these binders. Purchasing Lumen inserts is the most reliable way to ensure a perfect fit.
How to check your own sheets
Already have loose-leaf paper or inserts you want to use? Here is how to check before you punch:
- Check the sheet size. Measure the paper — it should be 148 mm wide and 210 mm tall (standard A5). Sheets slightly narrower than 148 mm will also work.
- Count the holes. You need exactly six holes per sheet.
- Check the hole spacing. If you have an existing A5 six-ring insert, align the holes against your new sheet to confirm the pitch matches before punching a full stack.
- Test with one sheet first. Punch a single sheet and place it on the rings. It should open and close smoothly without catching.
